Welcome to McKell Elementary School

McKell Elementary is located in the rolling hills of northeastern Kentucky along U.S. 23 in South Shore, Kentucky. We enroll approximately 460 students in grades pre-K through 5th, and employ a staff of 60. We offer services that range from addressing the needs of gifted to those at-risk. Elective course offerings include: media, technology, guidance, physical education, art and music.

21st Century is an after school option, offering assistance with academics and enrichment opportunities.  Recently we have been fortunate to add a 21st Century Basketball program on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The family youth service center is dedicated to removing non-academic barriers by offering a unique blend of programs. Students in need receive help with school supplies, clothing & dental care.

We have established a number of collaborative relationships throughout the community. The Mason’s donate items to promote academic achievement and assist with attendance incentives. Shawnee University provides a local pool of future educators. We work with their student teachers and practicum students. The Greenup 4H staff assists students with entries at the county fair and facilitates public speaking projects at school. The Kentucky Department of Wildlife sends a forest ranger to engage students on topics associated with social studies and science. We employ two part time staff through Americorp and the ACTC ready to work program.

Our Vision: “TEAM”, Together Everyone Accomplishes More.

Our Mission: Students will graduate from McKell Elementary with the skills necessary for middle school as they journey towards college and career readiness.
