Traysea Moresea was appointed Greenup County Schools Superintendent in a unanimous vote of the Board of Education on Monday, July 29, 2019.
Ms. Moresea brings 24 years of experience in education to the helm of Greenup County Schools. Her personal background in education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Education grades K-8, a Masters in Educational Leadership grades Pre-K-12, and certification as Instructional Supervisor grades PK-12 all from Marshall University. She completed her Rank I certification work for Superintendent at Eastern Kentucky University.
Ms. Moresea began her educational career as a Title I Reading Teacher in Cabell County Schools in Milton, WV. She then came to the Bluegrass State and served the Ashland Independent Schools as an elementary teacher and district technology resource teacher for 13 years. While a teacher at Ashland, she also coached the academic team and worked to level the playing field for at-risk students via technology and project-based learning. She moved into leadership as a District Reading/Curriculum Specialist for Fairview Independent Schools for two years prior to becoming the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at Greenup County Schools for five years.
During her time at Greenup County, Ms. Moresea has worked with teachers and administration to improve K-12 student achievement, graduation rate, and dual credit/ transition to career offerings. In addition, Ms. Moresea led data and instructional development to move the district into the status of District of Distinction.
As superintendent, her focus has been recovery from a global pandemic via strengthening community relationships and rethinking the goal of the instructional process. Through new relationships and stakeholder input, the district is now recognized as a Kentucky Innovative Leader Network district, Local Laboratory for Learning, and a provider of the University of Kentucky Next Generation Early College Program. The district is now a pilot for the United We Learn Accountability Prototype to help shape the future of student learning via meaningful assessment and school accountability.
Traysea Moresea has been married for 20 years to Matt Moresea, who is also an educator. Matt teaches biology, forensics, and college anatomy at Greenup County High School. The Moreseas have two children - Maria, 16, and Max, 14 who are both students in the Greenup County School District. The Moresea family spends a great deal of time in extracurricular activities such as the academic team, football, basketball, and volleyball.
Traysea is committed to serving all students in Greenup County Schools as if they are her own children.
