NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER CLASSROOM Mr. Haywood's classroom has once again been named a National Geographic Explorer Classroom! Check-out their recent Zoom with the explorers themselves!

HANDS-ON ALGEBRA Recently, students in Mrs. Shannon's mathematics classes spent time learning Algebra through hands-on equation structures. Yes, Algebra can be fun, interesting, and engaging! Great work, students!

THIS IS BANANAS B.A.N.A.N.A.S. 🍌 Our Hospitality and Tourism class recently made some fresh banana pudding. They then enjoyed eating their creations and all reviews point to deliciousness! All of the extras were given to our friends at Greenup County Meals on Wheels.

CENTERED ON NON-FICTION Recently, students in Mrs. Long's sixth-grade English classes spent time studying non-fiction text structures while working through centers. Those smiles mean they're learning and having fun!

COLLEAGUE CREDIT Mrs. Bobbi Brumfield shares that, recently, she asked for donations of objects that could be recycled into art pieces for her new creative arts class. She shares, " Boy, were my colleagues ready!" She notes that, within 30-minutes, she had four boxes of different categories of recyclable objects that could be used in her class. At Wurtland Middle School, if there is a need, it will be met. Mrs. Brumfield adds, "That's how we do things here! Best people in the world!" We love our Wildcat family!

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK Mrs. Angie Shannon shares that, recently, all of a student's colored pencils fell from her locker. Jarin ran to help the student collect the pencils. A few additional pencils continued to fall, and he stayed and picked those up, too. Then, Jarin made certain that everything was in its place for the other student before making his way to class. Jarin is always helpful and often asks if people around him need help. Way to be a leader, Jarin!

YEAR FOUR. BUILD MORE. Monday, April 21, will be a special day for Wurtland Middle School! We'll continue our tradition of building the walls of homes in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity of the Tri-State. We are proud to continue to share that we are the ONLY MIDDLE SCHOOL in the country to participate in this mode of collaboration. This year, we'll be building two homes and a complete shed. In addition, our elementary friends will be joining us to complete two special projects for future homeowners. We are excited to continue this journey!

NTI LEARNING UPDATE: APRIL 7, 2025 Today is certainly an unexpected day of non-traditional instruction, as we were hoping to see each of our Wildcats back in the building today, but, sometimes, the weather throws wrenches into the best laid plans. APRIL 21, 2025 Are you ready to do some good?

Due to flooding GCSD will use an emergency weather related NTI Day. Assignment due dates will be extended at each school to help any student impacted with flooding/lack of technology. Pray for our families impacted and those working in these conditions. #BelieveInGC

OPENGATE METAL AND WEAPONS DETECTION SYSTEM At Wurtland Middle School, the safety of our school community is a paramount concern. Beginning on Tuesday, we will begin utilizing a new metal and weapons detection system in an effort to further protect each student and faculty member. This system will detect vapor products and cylindrical metals, amongst a variety of other items. OPENGATE is the groundbreaking automatic screening system designed for high-throughput security environments. With its advanced technology, OPENGATE ensures efficient and accurate detection of metallic weapons in school environments and beyond. COLLEAGUE CREDIT Mrs. Kailey Prince shares that Crescent has jumped right into assuming multiple job duties and has become such an amazing addition to our school! She is always going above and beyond for students! Our Wildcat family is so glad to have her! Thank you, Mrs. Crescent!

COLLEAGUE CREDIT Katie Williams shares that Nurse Tracey Marshall is so patient with our students. She never makes our students feel like burdens or bothers. She takes her time and is a soothing presence when a student is upset. We appreciate you, Nurse Tracey! Thank you!

AND NOW, FOR SPECIAL BULLETIN (BOARDS) Our EdRising students are back to work, designing and creating bulletin boards throughout our school.  Their frog bulletin board is an interactive sticker art bulletin board.  We can't wait to see it finished, so make sure to add contributions when you pass it in the stairwell. Excellent work, students!

SPRING OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Our spring open house event will be filled with many activities, from an Industrial Arts sale located in the main lobby to a detailed question and answer session focused on the Greenup County School of Innovation. Please make plans to join us for this event!

BIG SMILES VISIT Big Smiles is scheduled to be at Wurtland Middle School on April 21 to see Wurtland Elementary School and Wurtland Middle School students.    If you would like to have your child examined by the dentist, please register using the listed links.
