Mrs. Brumfield shares that Hailey is an avid reader and enjoys realistic fiction. She reads on her Kindle and loves good, old-fashioned books from the library. She can usually be spotted throughout the day using time to read her current selection.

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK At Wurtland Middle School, we acknowledge Wildcats of the Week for doing small deeds with great care! Recently, Mrs. Logsdon observed Charlee taking the time to clean trash left by another student without prompting. Thank you, Miss Charlee!


WRITER OF THE WEEK
Mason has been working hard on practicing brainstorming ideas and then grouping them into bigger categories. These categories are then being used as his body paragraph topics in written arguments.
Mason is doing things WRITE at Wurtland Middle School!


STEM PROJECTS
Members of Mr. Haywood's STEM class created colonies on Mars. They designed these colonies using Minecraft and shared their creativity during class presentations. Great job, everyone!




EdRISING SPECIALITY SPEAKER SERIES
Next in our EdRising Specialty Speaker Series is Ms. Paula Pleasant.
Ms. Pleasant is Greenup County's Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. On Friday, students learned about career paths, assistive technologies, modes of communication, and some basic sign. Ms. Pleasant worked with students to finger spell their names and shared a few of her tools and manipulatives.

NEW AED
We have the most amazing school nurse at WMS! She wrote a grant for our building to get a second automated external defibrillator (AED) through KDMC. This will allow us to install a second unit upstairs. Thank you to Nurse Tara Adams and to our friends at KDMC!


HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM
Oh, the fragrances of this dish! Braylon Chandley is a natural at this "cooking thing"! His tomato pasta was delicious! The sauce was made completely from scratch. The aroma was amazing! Great job, Braylon! 👏🏼

Mrs. Logsdon shares that, on multiple occassions, Dakota has volunteered to read passages aloud in reading class. His volunteering to read has inspired his peers to do the same!

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
On several occasions, Brooklyn has shown kindness to both her peers and members of the faculty. She always volunteers to help organize the ChromeBooks. She also made little paper stars to give to her pen pals. Just today, she offered a piece of candy to another student.


CATS SPREADING SOME LOVE
Members of our Cats' Creations class spent time making Valentines and spreading love throughout the building yesterday. We love the good hearts of our students!










A TASTE OF FRENCH CUISINE
Today, Damian Smith taught Mrs. Shannon's class how he makes French toast. He did a great job! What a delicious start to our second semester of Hospitality and Tourism!







BLASTS FROM THE PAST
Students in Mrs. Long’s class traveled back to the 80s today! They listened to three different love ballads and had to write a persuasive response for their favorite song providing evidence and reasons. The choices were “Faithfully” by Journey, “I Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore” by REO Speedwagon, and “Heaven” by Bryan Adams. They voted on their favorites, and the lucky winner will be played during tomorrow’s morning announcements!







SPECIALTY SPEAKER SERIES
What a SWEET TREAT!!! Mrs. Amanda Greene, teacher for the blind and visually impaired, stopped by to visit with EdRising students today. She shared her path to becoming a VI teacher and let students see and experience many of her specialty tools and materials.
We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Greene in our district! Thank you for coming to share with us today!







GREENUP COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS INFORMATION


Students in Mrs. Logsdon's class continued their lesson on meiosis with a final review of finding traits for both parents. Students then determined the traits offspring would have using the Punnett square and then the phenotype needed make the class dragon baby.
